2025 THS Superstar Awards announced

Written by Sam Wilson, November 24, 2025

At our Big Get-Together in Northampton on Saturday 22 November, we announced the winners of our 2025 THS Superstar Awards. The awards recognise and celebrate the work of healthcare professionals, volunteers, campaigners and other community members who go above and beyond to help people and make a difference. Our members submitted nominations with some truly inspirational stories. We’re delighted to share these with you.

And the winners are…

Newcastle Haemophilia Centre

‘From the receptionist and auxiliary staff to the centre director, the Newcastle Haemophilia Centre team are always welcoming, caring, positive and supportive. It’s like having an extended family. The nurses and doctors helped my sons to be independent and supported their plans to travel and the physios encouraged my sons to stay active and participate in sport. Thank you to everyone at the centre.’

Congratulations to the whole team at Newcastle who were nominated with glowing praise. They were also responsible for one of the biggest Sports Day events this year with well over 100 participants. They weren’t in attendance to receive the award in person but it’s winging its way up to them as we speak.

Chris Baugh

‘Chris brings an authentic and compassionate voice to everything she does. Living with the rare bleeding disorder TPM4, she shares her experiences to raise awareness and empower others, helping to build understanding and community connection.

‘Her tireless commitment to self-improvement and advocacy for others makes her a shining example of what it means to be a true community champion volunteer in the bleeding disorder world.’

There are so many volunteers in our community who deserve recognition. Chris was praised for her compassion and advocacy in helping to raise the profile of people living with rare bleeding disorders.

Basingstoke Haemophilia Centre

‘These wonderful women deliver outstanding care on a regular basis for their patients and families. They are a proud example of what can be achieved with the right people involved.’

They are understanding and practical, ensuring you get the best outcome possible for your needs that day. Their kindness and compassion are given by the bucket load. Put simply, they are outstanding!’

Lara Oyesiku, Anna Wells, Meila Roy and Sarah Whittaker were nominated by a patient who felt their teamwork, dedication and kindness deserved ro celebrated as a team.

We were delighted to have Lara in attendance to accept the well-deserved award and she paid tribute to her colleagues in a heartfelt speech.

Marie Eales

‘In a world where it’s easy to feel lost in the system, Marie makes sure my son feels cared for and understood. Whenever my son has faced tough times with his condition linked with struggles at school, Marie has gone out of her way to reach out to us, treating my son like a person and not just a patient.’

‘She’s given me many hugs in the past when things have been scary or challenging. Her kindness has helped us through some really challenging moments, and I can’t thank her enough for that.’

We had so many nominations for individual haemophilia nurses and would’ve loved to honour them all This particular nomination stood out as it really encapsulated the role of nurses in haemophilia treatment and care and the massive difference they make.

Andy Evans

‘His approach to life with haemophilia and coinfection has been and continues to be inspirational through the years. Andy has never given up on himself, on others or on the campaign. He has become a true leader, with the skills and stature needed to bring together the different, and often conflicting, groups within our community. He can do this because he’s evidently unselfish and because people care about him.’

Andy is well-known in the infected blood community, particularly as a campaigner and co-founder of Tainted Blood. He’s respected and admired by so many people in our community for the determined, intelligent and dignified way in which he has campaigned. We’re delighted to be able to showcase and celebrate his work.

Huge congratulations to all our winners – the common themes of generosity, compassion, dedication and humility are exactly what these awards are for. Big thanks to all those who sent in nominations, we wish we could have given awards to everyone as they were all thoroughly deserving.
