Dr Lochana Nanayakkara

Consultant in Restorative Dentistry for Barts Health NHS Trust. Clinical Lead for people with inherited bleeding disorders at the Royal London Dental Hospital. 

Dr Nanayakkara is a consultant in Restorative Dentistry working for Barts Health NHS Trust and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at QMUL School of Medicine and Dentistry. She is the Director of Dental Education at Barts Heath and Co-Director of the DClinDent programme in Prosthodontics at QMUL Institute of Dentistry.  

She has a special interest in the dental management of patients with haemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders. She has been the Clinical Lead for people with inherited bleeding disorders at the Royal London Dental Hospital since 2003 and is the Dental Lead for the North London Adult Haemophilia Network launched in 2014.  Dr Nanayakkara has held World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH) Dental Committee positions as Western European Representative (2012-2014), Secretary (2014-2018) and Vice Chair (2018 – 2020 and is currently the elected Chair of the Dental Committee. 

Dr Nanayakkara has a clinical interest in the use of Low-Level Laser Diode therapy to manage gingival inflammation and support haemostasis for people with severe bleeding disorders and gained a Fellowship in Lasers in Dentistry in 2018.
