New resource – Dental Care For Adults With A Bleeding Disorder is launched
We are pleased to announce that our new resource, Dental Care For Adults With A Bleeding Disorder, is now available for you to download or order.
This is the first resource we have produced that provides information about looking after your teeth, mouth and gums along with dental care and types of treatment to consider if you have a bleeding disorder.
Good dental hygiene is essential for everyone and by producing this booklet, we want to ensure that our community have the right support and information when making decisions about dental care.
We worked with Dr Lochana Nanayakkara, Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the Royal London Hospital to provide a comprehensive yet easy to read resource that we hope will support our community to feel empowered when making choices around dental care.
“Dental Care is an important topic that affects everyone with a bleeding disorder but can often be overlooked in general health care publications, so I am delighted to have been asked to contribute to this booklet published by The Haemophilia Society.
It has been a great privilege to have been able to look after adults with bleeding disorders for over 15 years and yet, I am still saddened by how many people I meet that have suffered unnecessarily with oral bleeding, not seeking help because they assumed that it was a part of their bleeding disorder.
This booklet is a comprehensive overview of dental care. It contains lots of information on how to prevent dental problems which is a key message that is relevant to all. I hope it will also help to break down the barriers that might prevent adults with bleeding disorders going to their dentist so that they can enjoy eating their food and smile confidently without the fear of oral bleeding. Remember….HEALTHY GUMS DON’T BLEED!”
