Thank you for supporting our winter appeal!

Written by Jessica Bomford, January 15, 2023

We’re excited to tell you that our winter fundraising appeal has raised an incredible £47,000.

Your generosity means we can continue the essential work we do in support of those infected and affected by the contaminated blood scandal.

Kate Burt, our Chief Executive, said: ‘I’m overwhelmed by the generosity and compassion of our members. I can’t thank you enough for your support, especially at a time when so many of us are feeling squeezed financially.

‘As a charity, we’re currently facing a very challenging fundraising environment, which means that your support is more important than ever. This will be a crucial year for those impacted by the Infected Blood Inquiry and we are grateful that your donations will enable our Public Inquiry Team to offer support to those who need it.’

Our winter appeal asked for your help in supporting the work we do with those infected and affected by the contaminated blood scandal. Since the Infected Blood Inquiry began its public hearings in 2019, we have seen a surge in demand for information about how to get involved in the inquiry as well as how to apply for financial support. We also have helped many members access psychological support to help deal with the trauma of having to relive pain and loss through the inquiry. We’ve provided daily updates on inquiry evidence so that those who cannot get to the hearings or do not have the time to follow it closely can keep up to date with developments.

Our Public Inquiry Team is currently funded by a generous legacy which will run out when the inquiry finishes this year, just at the point when so much additional work and support will be needed. Thanks to your donations, we will continue to be here to offer support through the next stage of the inquiry process.

We are now in the final few weeks of the inquiry, which will finish its hearings on 3 February. There will then be a wait until the summer before the final report is published.

In the meantime, we, along with other campaign groups, are working to ensure that the government produces a framework for full and fair compensation for all those infected and affected by this scandal, which is ready to implement when the inquiry’s recommendations are known.

We look to 2023 with great hope, knowing that we have the support of our wonderful community and always remembering that you are at the heart of everything we do.

There are some fantastic events on offer this year please sign up and come and meet us.

Thank you for your ongoing support, if you would like to donate it’s not too late! Read more about the appeal and donate at the link below.
