This week the Infected Blood Inquiry has investigated the Lord Mayor of Treloar’s College in Hampshire during the 1970s and 1980s.

The college was attended by a number of boys with haemophilia and, in 1979, an NHS haemophilia centre was established at the school.

Evidence this week looked at what was known about the risks of HIV and hepatitis by Treloar’s clinicians at the time, what information was given to parents about their son’s treatment and how the school handled the boys’ HIV infection in terms of counselling and physical care. The inquiry also looked at a long pattern of clinical research on boys with haemophilia at Treloar’s.

Evidence came from former pupils, parents of pupils and former staff as well as a presentation from inquiry counsel, Jenni Richards QC. The witnesses were: Gary Webster, Nick Sainsbury, Lee Stay, John Peach, pictured, Gary Bennett and Alec Macpherson. Two former pupils gave evidence anonymously as Mr BA and Mr BC.
