This week at the Infected Blood Inquiry, there were presentations about the organisation and history of the UK’s blood transfusion services.
There were also presentations about Professor John Cash, former national medical and scientific director of the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service, and Dr Harold Gunson, former director of the North Western Regional Transfusion Centre and consultant adviser to the chief medical officer from 1981 to 1994.
Over 4 days of evidence, the inquiry heard about key issues including how and when blood donations were screened for HIV and the development of effective hepatitis C screening.
