Public Inquiry
Letter to minister sets out key compensation concerns
Written by Jessica Bomford, December 12, 2024
The Haemophilia Society has written to Nick Thomas-Symonds MP, the minister with responsibility for implementing the Infected Blood Inquiry’s recommendations, following our meeting with him on 11 December.
The letter, from our Chair, Conan McIlwrath, lists concerns about the government’s Infected Blood Compensation Scheme raised by our members. It also calls for meaningful government engagement with the infected blood community. The need for this was reinforced by a letter from Sir Brian Langstaff, Chair of the inquiry, to the minister on 9 December.
Conan’s letter to the minister says: ‘It should be clear to you and your team that the infected blood community expects to be meaningfully involved in the compensation process. Views differ and no one would suggest this is easy. However, if your government is truly accepting of the Infected Blood Inquiry’s recommendations, then it is your moral duty to make this happen.’
