Face-to-face PIP assessments to resume in England

With lockdown restrictions in England easing, face-to-face PIP assessments will slowly be returning – with the option of video consultations available from the summer.

Capita, one of the providers of assessments for the DWP in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, has conducted 94 per cent of PIP assessments by phone since June 2020. It has been trialling a video consultation which will be an option for assessments from July.

Capita’s face-to-face assessments will take place in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland once lockdown restrictions there are lifted.

Initial in-person assessments will be set aside for people who have not been able to take part in an assessment by phone for example those with hearing and or speech disabilities. There is a large backlog, so there may be a wait before being called for assessment.

Those attending will be asked to wear a face covering and be socially distanced at the assessment. Extra cleaning and ventilation will be put in place.

The Haemophilia Society is part of the Capita Expert Collaborative Forum which brings together patient organisations whose communities are assessed by Capita for the DWP.
